Prime Minister of Kazakhstan re-elected as Asian President: FAMA Meets in Saint Petersburg

Thirty Asian countries participated in the IFMA World Championships and the annual meeting of the Federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia (FAMA) was held. Agenda points covered how FAMA will develop in the next three years, starting with the FAMA elections. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Mr. Karim Massimov, was unanimously re-elected for another four year term to head the Asian federation, which is recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia.

Mr. Mervyn Tan was also re-elected as the General Secretary. Mr. Sherzod Tashmatov from Uzbekistan, Mr. Yeo Kyu Tae from  Korea, Mr. Amir Hussaini from Afghanistan, General Lucas Managuelod from the Philippines and Mr. Zhou Jin Biao from China were all among the members elected.

Asian countries will have to have a very close cooperation in the next years, as there are so many big games upcoming. The Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games, the 27th SEA Games, and also the joint Asian promotion of the Arafura Games. The year 2013 will be a big one for FAMA.

IFMA President, Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, gave an opening note about the strong cooperation between IFMA and FAMA, and also congratulated Mr. Massimov on the re-election.
