26 Asian countries sent official teams to the 4th Asian Indoor Martial Art Games and the overall performance of the athletes have shown that the sport of muaythai is truly safe in Asia.
Countries like Iraq, Malaysia, Vietnam, Mongolia and many others made a huge impression at these games with outstanding athlete performances.
The medals were spread with Thailand slowly losing its stronghold in Asia, a grip which they have already lost worldwide.
One of the most outstanding competitions was the female competition with the surprise package this time coming from Thailand as they did not expect to win in these divisions, but did so with consistent performances by the ladies on the team.
Korea won a gold medal making the home country proud but it is the smaller countries which showed they have really caught up like Afghanistan, Myanmar and Malaysia. Kazakhstan won the gold against Thailand in the 75 KG division, while in the 71 KG division Thailand had a hard battle against China and against Iran in the 67KG division. Iran beat Laos in the 63.5KG division while Vietnam beat Kyrgyzstan in the 57KG division.
Overall a fantastic event, the VIP section brimming with representatives of the NOCs, OCA and sporting world from day one until the final day with a great atmosphere in the stadium created by the enthusiastic supporters.
