The official qualifier took place in the Afghan capital Kabul for female and male athletes with the final bouts taking place on the 5th June. Athletes from all the country again gathered to compete for the right to represent their country at the upcoming IFMA events; the Youth World Championships, and Kazan World Cup which is a qualifier for the World Games 2017.
Muaythai is one of the most popular martial arts in Afghanistan which is recognised by the National Olympic Committee. All the athletes again could enjoy the support from the Afghan government as representatives from the National Directorate of Sport Gymnasium in Kabul attended the Afghanistan Cup to express their support for athletes and the Sport for All campaign.
IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan said that he is happy to see that muaythai in Afghanistan has truly become popular for people from all walks of life and he can only congratulate the President Amir Hussaini for his achievement in gender equality and spreading muaythai values in Afghanistan.
