Baghdad Hosts Iraqi Championships

Muaythai has been gaining more and more popularity in Iraq, and the national team has its sights set on garnering more international success in Bangkok where they have entered a big team to compete at the upcoming Youth World Championships.
Last week, Baghdad hosted the Iraqi Championships with over 30 gyms from Karbalaa, Basrah, Missan and many other Iraqi provinces attending the event to compete for the title of the best in senior divisions, and for the youth to represent their country in Bangkok.

The Iraqi Muaythai Federation is fully recognised by the Iraqi Olympic Committee and Muaythai is one of the most popular combat sports in Iraq with so many developments taking place over recent years coupled with muaythai’s recognition by FISU, IWGA, SportAccord, AIMS; Muaythai will surely grow with more and more people engaging in the practice of muaythai, be it as a competitive sport, a form of fitness, cultural art form or simply as a way of life.
