Muaythai in the Philippines which is fully recognised by the NOC just presented their annual report outlining the amazing work which has been done by the National Federation under the Presidency of General Manageulod who is also an IFMA member.

Safer Streets Project, Quezon City – September 5, 2016

The aforementioned grassroots training in District 1, Quezon City with 16 barangays was held at the Laloma Covered Courts. It was participated by 80 children. It was a one-day seminar that focused on basic muaythai and self-defense skills. There was also a short program on the introduction of the history of muaythai and the presentation of medalist athletes to inspire the youth. The program was successful and will be replicated in other barangays (towns) this year. We are currently working with the local city government to launch a muaythai summer camp for the youth.

2016 Muaythai National Open, Baguio City – October 27 to 31, 2016

The national open was attended by 160 athletes from 26 participating teams from around the country. It was held in Baguio City, Benguet and organized by one of our most active chapters. The event lasted for 4 days, which included waikru and combat categories for both juniors and seniors. It was a highly publicized event, which helped in boosting the image and popularity of muaythai in the country. This was a preliminary event to the National Championships.

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET Grassroots – October 31 to November 11, 2016

The grassroots program in La Trinidad, Benguet consisted of 2 phases: instructor training course, which was attended by DepEd teachers as well as Muaythai instructors from affiliate members, and the Adivay Championships. The instructor training course was conducted over a 10-day period with 2 days testing in order to assess the participants’ competencies. There were a total of 13 successful participants who completed the Khan 3 program.

ADIVAY FESTIVAL – November 11 to 13, 2016

The Adivay Festival was attended by 110 athletes in both Waikru and combat categories. The event was held in La Trinidad, Benguet and had a total of 16 teams participating coming from different parts of the country. The tournament was part of the region’s famous Adivay Festival, which is celebrated annualy. This was also a preliminary event to the National ChampionshipsPhilippines-muaythai(3)

2016 Muaythai National Championships – December 15 to 18, 2016

The aforesaid National Championships had 273 participants & 43 teams from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. December 14, the registration day included Draw lots, and Medical check-ups, and elimination fights on December 15-17 with the finals ending on December 18, 2016. The event resulted in the awarding of 63 gold Medals. We are proud to say that this event has produced 14 outstanding Athletes that we have recruited to be part of the National team. This has also been the biggest tournament MAP has overseen and we are expecting a bigger tournament in the years to come.

Intensive Instructor Training Course – December 12 to 14, 2016

63 muaythai practitioners, who wanted to take their practice to the next level, attended the ITC. The participants included PE teachers, fitness trainers, muaythai enthusiasts and fighters from across the country. It was conducted over 3 days, after which written tests and actual demonstration tests were given. They were given the Khan 3 ranking on completion of the course.

The General Secretary of the National Federation, Pearl who is also the IFMA Ad Hoc committee secretary stated that the Philipines continues to work on grass roots projects and their athletes are participating in all IFMA OCA sanctioned events and as the host of the 2019 SEA Games, the Philipines mission and vison is to have a strong national team to bring pride and honour to the Philipines
