6th of December 2016 was a historical day for IFMA and muaythai with the recognition granted by the IOC which now makes muaythai and IFMA an individually recognised member in the Olympic family. The IFMA Ad-Hoc Management Committee met in Bangkok. The meeting was opened by IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, and then it was “roll your sleeves up” for the 2-day meeting.

Many experts and advisors were called in to advise on the strategic planning for the next four years. Muaythai under IFMA was included into many multi-sport games under the Olympic banner – World Games, FISU World University Championship programme, World Combat Games, Asian Indoor & Martial Arts games, Asian Beach Games and now back fully included into the SEA Games. This brings many new opportunities, but also much responsibility for all the stakeholders in the muaythai family. The IFMA calendar for the year ahead is packed with events.

The IOC recognition gave the sport another boost, with many National Olympic Committees now event more so recognising the IFMA member national federations.

Detailed reports on the meeting’s agenda will be published in the following weeks in keeping with IFMA’s policy on good governance to ensure that all stakeholders are informed on all the important decisions made by the IFMA Executive.
