Muaythai Portugal Celebrates 30 Years

A special award night was organised in Lisbon where Portuguese Muaythai celebrated it’s 30th Anniversary and Portuguese champions received awards for promoting their country through sport.
It’s remarkable how much Muaythai has developed in Portugal since its dawn. Today Portugal is one of the leading forces in European Muaythai with Portuguese male and female athletes winning medals in the events at the highest level as well as representing their country in the multisport games.
The President Ana Vital Melo is one of the most active officials for Muaythai in Europe engaging in social projects and developing the grassroots of the sport. Ms Melo is the IFMA Vice President and a board member of the European Muaythai Federation.

Portuguese Muaythai is fully recognised by the National Olympic Committee, and hosting an amazing European Championships in 2013 is another testimonial of how popular Muaythai is in Portugal.

Today Portugal prides with athletes of the highest level who represent their country at the biggest Muaythai events and multisports games. Rui Botello and Maria Lobo were among the 88 strongest athletes in the world competing for medals at the World Gales 2017 in Poland, and three gold medals with two of them won by the youth at the last European Championships in Paris which again shows that Muaythai is growing in Portugal from the grassroots level.
Congratulations Muaythai Portugal and best wishes for the upcoming events in 2018
