Muaythai fans in Hong Kong were treated to an exciting tournament as eight countries  battled for medals at the East Asian Muaythai Championships. Among the stand-out results was an impressive eight gold medals for host nation Hong Kong and nine for nine by The Philippines when every athlete on the team won a medal. The event took place in the Queen Elizabeth stadium, and was supported by the the Home Affairs Bureau, in cooperation with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Head of the Hong Kong federation said: “After a four-day battle, the East Asian Muay Thai Championship was successfully finished, and the Hong Kong team was brilliant at eight gold and two silver! Thank you to everyone who came in to cheer up and collect live friends, your support is the source motivation for all Hong Kong athletes!”

Eight gold medals for Hong Kong

Team Philippines took two gold, three silver and four bronze medals – the hard work done by the athletes and the Federation headed by President Ms. Pearl Managuelod paying off.

The Philippines has made great progress in both senior and youth divisions winning seven medals at the last Youth World Championships in Bangkok. IFMA congratulates team Philippines on this outstanding result and taking its place among the leading Muaythai federations in Asia, and especially former Youth championn Rudzma Abubakar winning gold at 48kg and Jenelyn Olsim, gold at 54kg after recently competing at the FISU WUC in Thailand. Ryan Jakiri, Jerry Olsim and Pio Rafael Fajardo won silver with four bronzes making up the total.
