Let’s get ready for Songkran!!

Songkran is Thailand’s, most famous festival and a very important event on the Buddhist calendar. It is a water festival and it marks the beginning of the Thai traditional new year. The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning passing or approaching. Water is an important element of Songkran and the Buddhists visit temples where water is poured on the hands of Buddhist Monks as a mark of respect.

Respect is one of the five fundamental principles of muaythai. Respecting one another, our elderly, our teachers. Every year special celebrations are held at the WMC and IFMA headquarter to continue this tradition but also to give our respect to the leaders of our sport. This year once again Songkran homage was paid to the WMC President, General Chetta Thanajaro and the IFMA President, Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan.

We wish you all a happy Songkran. Prepare to get splashed if you are in Thailand! Safe travels to the ones who made their way home to spend time with their families. Enjoy your time! And happy new year to the Kingdom of Thailand.
