December 5th is one of the most celebrated days in Thailand as it is the Birthday of His Majesty. It is a national holiday and as the King’s colour is yellow every Thai wears a yellow shirt to show their love for His Majesty. Muaythai has a long tradition and so it is that the biggest Muaythai event in the world is staged outside the famous Wat Phra Keo in the Grand Palace
This MuayThai extravaganza saw international and Thai boxers gathering together to honour His Majesty. Boxers from over 30 countries came to compete. The event was organized by Srongchai promotions under the umbrella of the WMC. The event featured the largest crowd ever seen at a MuayThai event – an estimated 1 million people thronged the park over the 2 days.

The second day of the festival kicked off with 3 international bouts. Heung Pak Wing , Hong Kong winning a 5-round war against Ali Iran.
We also had an exciting fight between Tae Young Choi, Korea and Oliver Exposito , Belgium which Korea won and Gabriel Rossi Canada lost out to Yousf Sultani , Iran.
The evening saw a beautiful ceremony in honour of His Majesty’s birthday with candles being lit by an estimated 1 million people and a gorgeous display of fireworks over the Grand Palace.
This excitement was followed by the WMC S-1 at Super Heavy weight, the first time this tournament has ever taken place in Thailand. The 8 boxers were Esh Chador Brown, USA, Vukota Mirkovic Germany, Eric Sitpholek, Slovakia, Jafar Ahmadhi , Iran , Ramazan Ramazanov, Russia, Emmanuel Payet, France, Marek Dimitriov, Belarussia and Denes Kiss Hungary.
This part of the show saw some great fights with the Thai crowd really getting behind the heavier fighters – so different to what is usually seen here.
Semi-final : Ramazan, Russia vs Jafar, Iran – win on points Ramazan
Marek , Belarussia vs Vukota Mirkovic ( walk-over for Marek due to injury )
Final: Belarussia v.s Russia with Ramazan taking the fight and the WMC S-1 at Super Heavy weight.
The undercard featured a number of Super-fights with Angelo Vieira, Portugal winning over Alex Dally, UK in a fight which can only be described as a war, both boxers really giving their all from the very first bell.
Fahkamram SorViengtai, Thailand won over Almaz Kasenov, Kazakhstan. Teodor Zariyev , Kazakhstan won over Vanni Fae, Italy , Faisal Mohammed , Sudan and Mohammed Oudris , Morocco fought to a draw. Overall the 2 days were a great promotion for MuayThai, a genuinely international gathering showing Thailand the global passion which exists for MuayThai and bringing the amazing celebrations for His Majesty’s birthday to the world.
The WMC and IFMA and SongChai Promotions were proud to have hosted this event, to have had the opportunity to honour His Majesty in this manner and bring 2006 the year of the Diamond Jubilee to an exciting close and with no doubt the world is looking forward to his Majesty’s 80th Birthday in 2007.
