General Pichitr Kullavanijaya's Kids Take Singapore and The Contender Asia by Storm!
During the shooting of The Contender Asia in Singapore, General Pichitr Kullavanijya Privy Councilor to HM the King, Honorary president WMC and IFMA sent his kids, Narong Konkhamyai (10 yrs) and Phongthawee Tangsian (9 yrs) to Singapore to put on their adorable and most exciting demonstration of Muay Boran. Accompanied by their coach and chaperone Mr. Somnuek Traisutti, the boys traveled to Singapore and performed not once, but twice at the Contender Fight Nights to promote our MAD (Muaythai Against Drugs) campaign. These little ambassadors had the entire arena fall head over heels in love with them! The MAD campaign is run by the WMC and IFMA and was established to create drug awareness and to take younsters off the streets and into the ring. In the aftermath of the Tsunami in 2005, over 70 countries joined the campaign to raise over 1 million dollars in care packages for children in need. Many of the spectators were heard commenting that they would just love to put them in bag and take them home!! Surely Mr. Somnuek would have a thing or two to say about that!!
So energetic was the crowd the first night the boys performed that the makers of the show insisted that they come back to perform once again on the final fight night before shooting wrapped. The second time around, Mr. Somnuek threw in some new moves, and even the boys themselves thought of a few new moves on their own while practicing 10 minutes prior to performing! This truly shows that the future of Muaythai is bright with such talent amongst the younger ranks. The sport sure has a lot to look forward to!
