Muaythai’s Official Launch in Samoa

Since its 2006 inclusion under IFMA into the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), a partner of the IOC, Muaythai has truly become a member of the international mainstream sporting community, and the WMC and IFMA have welcomed many new member countries into the international Muaythai family, reaching a total of 116 and counting.

The Samoa Muaythai Association, after much hard work, recently celebrated the development of the sport in their country with an official launch that was widely covered by the national media.

The event was opened by the Samoan Minister of Sports and included displays of Wai Kru, strategy and technique in front of an enthusiastic audience who packed the venue, showing the excitement and culture of the sport and art, and no doubt inspiring many in the crowd to try Muaythai for themselves.

Mr Ah Kau, the President of the Samoa Muaythai Association has noted the increasing popularity of Muaythai not only as a ring sport but also as a form of fitness that promotes a healthy lifestyle, and has been working hard to instill these values in the students of his gym, stating “Muaythai keeps the kids mind and body sharp, but at the same time builds their confidence up and teaches them self-discipline, so it is a good sport for anyone to be involved in.”

Congratulations to the Samoa Muaythai Association on a fantastic promotion for Muaythai, and we look forward to seeing the sport continue to grow in this beautiful country.
