International Showdown in Singapore
The heart of Asia, Singapore, was the host for another world class Muaythai event telecasted on UBC and Fox Sports. Singapore, which will be the setting for the much anticipated Contender Muaythai reality series, is very much establishing itself as one of the leading sporting cities in South East Asia, and the beautiful venue of Fort Canning had a capacity crowd.
The headline fight saw the WMC World Champion Paul Slowinski successfully defend his World Title for the fourth consecutive time, but the main undercard battle was the one that had Singapore on its feet for the local hero Zac as he fought for the last vacant spot in the Contender series - and what a performance it was, culminating in the Producer of the Contender making an emotional speech to the audience, after Zac who was truly on fire took home the fight and made the final cut for the show.
The undercard featured international bouts, with Singapore’s own Brenda fighting Sakorn from Thailand which had the crowd on its feet. Brenda, one of the country’s biggest female talents, won the fight with a convincing points victory.
In another female fight of the night, Lisa Buckley from England took on a much more experienced Thai fighter, showing that female Muaythai in England is on the rise with a great victory. Part of the undercard served as the Singaporean qualifier for the upcoming IFMA World Championships and possibly the SEA Games, which shows how much talent there is in Singapore
The event, organized by the Amateur Muaythai Association of Singapore, under the umbrella of the Federation of Amateur Muaythai Asia (FAMA), under IFMA and GAISF and the WMC.
