2007 Muaythai World Championship Update

Preparations are well underway for the 2007 IFMA World Championship, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in honour of HM the King of Thailand’s 80th birthday.

This prestigious event is a Royal Thai Government recognised project for His Majesty’s birthday celebrations, and is set to see 100 countries sending teams to participate in the Male, Female and Junior divisions. Final team lists are due 20th October 2007.

After the success of last year’s event, the 2nd Muaythai Aerobic World Championships will also be part of the Championship, together with a special Gala Dinner and courses for Wai Khru, Muay Boran, instructors, judges and referees, to even further deepen the international understanding of Muaythai culture, traditions, rules and regulations.

Since its 2006 inclusion under IFMA into the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), a partner of the IOC, Muaythai has truly become a member of the international mainstream sporting community, and the WMC and IFMA have welcomed many new member countries into the international Muaythai family, reaching a total of 116 and counting.

This year’s event will be a fabulous showcase of just how much the sport has grown in each of these nations, while respecting the traditional roots, history and culture of the art.
