The Best of the Best – Muaythai Supershow in Iran

Fighters from around the world arrived in Tehran, Iran, to take on the country’s best fighters in a show organized by Jitlada Promotions together with the Martial Arts Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and sanctioned by the WMC and FAMA, a member of IFMA.

An audience of 3,000 were there to see the first half amateur, half professional Muaythai event ever held in Iran.

The show opened with Akbar Karimi (Iran) vs Vagif Abdulaev (Russia) at 85kg, with both boys looking hungry for the win, but the Russian being just too strong, taking the fight by way of knock out.

   

Masoud Izady (Iran) was next up against Wanchana (Thailand) in a well-matched bout, both boys trading beautiful technique for the full duration of the fight, Masoud emerging as the winner on points. This was followed by another Iran vs Thailand bout, as Valid Roushani took on Sisananchai at 73kg, and a brilliant display of Muaythai action.

Fight four saw Abbas Astaraki (Iran) vs Faisal Zakaria of Sudan, and this was the clash of the big boys, and one of the fights of the night. The crowd was loud but the Sudanese fighter really showed his class taking the points decision.

   

The audience was on their feet for fight 5, as Eiman Abdullahi took on Australia’s Shane Minet. The action was explosive, and the Iranian fighter won this fight.

The final fight of the night was a real war, Iran’s Jafar Ahmadi stepping up against Kazakhstan’s Azem, winner of the IFMA World Championships. Both boys fought toe to toe, thrilling the audience and demonstrating the strength of Muaythai in both countries, but it was the Kazakhstan fighter who won the points decision at the end.

The show was another indication of the growing popularity and quality of fighters coming from the Islamic Republic of Iran, and was telecast around the world. Congratulations to the promoter and the Iranian Martial Arts Federation and the sport of Muaythai is looking towards a great future in Iran.
