Rumble of the Kings - WMC K-1 Super Event in Sweden
The Swedish Muaythai Association, the single Muaythai organization under the umbrella of the Swedish government, has held yet another world class event, sanctioned under the World Muaythai Council, the world authoritative Muaythai body under the directive of the Thai government and IFMA, the world governing amateur body, and a member of GAISF. The show proved the importance of a healthy co operation between amateur and professional as has functioned for years between WMC and IFMA, as a total of 12 former and current IFMA World Champions, Runner-up Champions and WMC Champions fought together on one card. Now that Muaythai has become part of the Olympic mainstream under GAISF, this strength is vital. The Globe Arena was packed with about 8,000 spectators and the event will be televised on networks including Eurosport, Fox Sports and UBC. The fights were world class, with results as follows:
The Swedish Muaythai super fight saw the two best super welterweights squaring up and demonstrating again why Sweden is one of the world powerhouses in Muaythai, with Joakim Karlsson winning on points against Mattias Karlsson in a great display of the art. Former two-time IFMA World Champion and former WMC Heavyweight World Champion J?rgen Kruth took on Freddy Kemayo from France. Kruth, the Swedish Hero again showed his world class and that he is still a contender for the heavyweight title by winning a unanimous decision. As important as always was the female Muaythai fight which had the audience on their feet as IFMA World Champion Magdalena Kowalczyk of Sweden took on former IFMA World champion Carly Jiumelli of Australia who stepped up a weight division. A great fight and display of all Muaythai techniques, with Magdalena taking home the points decision.
The Super Event was full of superstars, results were as follows: Tournament Semi-Final Results: Tournament Final Result: WMC World Title Fight Overall the event was a great promotion for Muaythai and congratulations must go to the organisers.
