2007 IFMA World Championships… a record crowd of 100,000 spectators!

The 2007 IFMA World Championships had already reached new heights when it could boast an amazing number of participating countries totaling 100, but the IFMA finals went on to exceed all expectations.

Mr. Hein Verbruggen, president of GAISF and chairman of the 2008 Olympic coordination committee chaired the finals and many other IOC and sport dignitaries came to support and enjoy the bouts. The souvenir program was filled with messages from the Privy Councilor to HM the King, the Prime Minister of Thailand, the IOC president, the sports minister of Thailand, IOC members such as the president of AIBA, HRH Prince of Jordan, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, the president of the Thailand National Olympic Committee, the president of the WMC, the secretary general of the TAFISA World Sport for All Games, representatives of the 13 IOC and recognized martial arts, Mark Burnett and the list goes on.

Three hours prior to the opening of the event the venue, set against the magnificent backdrop of the Grand Palace was already packed with enthusiastic onlookers. By event's end, the venue was bursting at the seams with spectators cheering in support of the athletes. The finals had a mixture of juniors, female and male and saw some of the best fights of the competition. The record crowd with no doubt will be hard to beat and the representatives of IOC and GAISF were able to get a clear picture of just how established Muaythai has truly become. The IFMA World Championship finals finished off with a bang with a spectacular fireworks show that lit up the sky highlighting the beautiful silhouette of the Grand Palace.
