Confrontation

When taking part in a MuayThai bout there are several points to bear in mind:

- Self-confidence !

- Which stance to choose.

- To control the distance between you and your opponent.

- The timing of the actual attack.

Self-confidence:

A fighter must believe that he is capable of winning a bout – a belief instilled by hard training and coaching from his trainer. The fighter should be sure of his style and know when to use the various weapons. Concentration and belief will enable the fighter to overcome any pain encountered.

:: Equilibrium Confontration

:: Mutual Confrontation

:: Turn of the Body
:: Krayod Ku

The stance:

When both fighters work off the same side this is known as equilibrium of confrontation - no immediate advantages for either But when a southpaw fights a right-hander the case is different. In this case Ching Kom can be used - to strike first and take advantage. Or Krayod Ku – to pull the guard and move back quickly. This can be dangerous if not followed by an immediate counter-attack.

The timing of the actual attack:

It is possible to gain advantage through both defending and attacking. The initial attacker goes in first - looking for his opponents weak points.

If possible the defender steps back and gives the attacker a false sense of security and then moves forward to counterattack. This should be harder and faster than the original attack.

So maneuvering oneself and thinking before striking can be seen to be of vital importance in gaining the advantage.
