Matcha Len Hang (Flick
Kick)
This kick derives its power from the
spinning power of the body. It is one of
the "tae sam mai"
How to throw this
kick:
You guard with your right, point the right
shin a little to the left side of the body
and then kick with the right leg at the
left leg of your opponent. Move the right
leg to the left and then to the right by
aiming at the chin, jaw or neck.
To be effective, use the
back of the foot, the side of the foot,
the heel, or the reverse kick ( Jorake fadhang)
When to use:
There are 2 main situations which are suitable:
If your first kick misses
the target; as your opponent moves in for
the attack then use the flick kick to the
chin or jaw
As part of your main attack,
throw a flick kick to the chin or jaw of
the opponent.
How to practice:
Stand at the sandbag - on guard with the
left leg a little in front. Move the left
leg forward in a diagonal direction. Kick
the right leg to the left side of the body
and then twist your hip and pull back. Aim
the back, side or heel of your foot at where
the head of your opponent would be.
The reverse kick is more complicated:
Stand on guard with the left leg in front,
raise the right foot a little and spin around
to the right and place your right foot in
the same place. Bend the left leg as you
go around. (or the opposite if you are a
southpaw)
Once you are comfortable with the spinning
and the kick, put both together:
Guard with the left and move the left leg
forward to the right of your body, about
60 degrees. Spin to the right, and hit home
with the foot.
