WMC – Contender Qualifier Australia – Success in the Land Down Under

Chandler Arena was jam packed for the WMC Contender Asia Australian Qualifier, sanctioned by the WMC and aired on Fox Sport.
The undercard itself was a feast of muaythai as Australia’s best took on the veterans of Contender Asia Season one.

Bruce MacFie and Dzhabar Askerov set the house on fire and in the same way that Soren Mongkontong had previously become victim to Dzhabar’s punching power, out of nowhere Dzhabar unleashed a thunderous right hand to end Bruce MacFie’s dream.

Soren Mongkontong met Singapore’s Superstar Ziz Zac. This was truly a world-class display by Soren and credit must go to Zac as he not only fought Soren but 6,000 Australians who were there in full support of the Australian wonder boy. After three rounds of explosive muaythai, the referee stopped the fight as Zac received a cut.

John Wayne Parr, Australia’s muaythai ambassador took on Sean Wright who had just suffered a bad flu but stepped in the ring anyway. Bad luck, as he just didn’t have the stamina to take on the Australian number one muaythai opponent.

WMC World Champion Nathan Carnage Cobbett also won his fight and will be defending his WMC World Title at the next event.

The Contender Asia Qualifier was pure adrenalin. Eli Madigan, Jason Scerri, Greg Foley and Warren Elson were the names put forward to enter Contender Asia Season Two to represent Australia, and follow in JWP’s footsteps.

Eli Madigan and Jason Scerri went hard from the opening bell and in round two, Eli Madigan advanced to the final.

Greg Foley and Warren Elson was the next highly anticipated match and Warren Elson took the decision.
Warren Elson versus Eli Madigan - what a fight and this fight will live on in everyone’s memories for a long time to come. 3 rounds of survival of the fittest and in the end the judges gave it by split decision to Eli Madigan.
If you did not have the chance to watch it, Fox sport will do a two hour special congratulations to the promoters. Stay tuned for more info on the Fox Sport Tele-Guide. Muaythai in Australia is on fire!
