HRH Maha Vajiralongkorn, Crown Prince of Thailand
The Prince’s trophy was bestowed upon the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMTAT) and IFMA in 1993.
AMTAT is a member of IFMA, and it is the sole national federation in Thailand recognized by the Royal Thai Government and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, thus permitted to take Thai athletes to international events as the sole national Muaythai team.
At the SEA Games and the Asian Indoor Games (now known as the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games), AMTAT’s athletic delegation is the only Thai national Muaythai team permitted to participate as representative of the Kingdom. Thus, AMTAT has the right to play the Thai national anthem and fly the national flag at international sporting events. AMTAT is also the sole national Muaythai federation under Thai royal patronage, in particular the patronage of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. For this reason, the Prince’s Trophy is very special to AMTAT and IFMA, as a mark of this illustrious relationship.
