Message from H.E Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

(2009)

On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I would like to welcome all participants to the Kingdom of Thailand for the 2009 International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships.

Muaythai, a sport that reflects culture and tradition, plays an important part in the history of our country. I am proud to acknowledge that Muaythai, with its amazing spectator appeal, is now a very popular sport in the world and it is included in various multi-sports competitions.

The Royal Thai Government recognises the importance of sports as the key to promote friendship, cooperation and unity among peoples. The differences of race, colour, religion and political views are discarded during the competitions. The development of Muaythai is a great way to encourage good health and promote tourism within Thailand and Asia.

I would like to convey my appreciation to all International Federation of Muaythai Amateur and World Muaythai Council delegates from around the world for your efforts in fostering and advancing Muaythai. I trust that all athletes, officials and guests from 82 member countries will have a memorable visit to Thailand and great success in the competitions. It fills me with the greatest pride and I would like to thank you all for joining us in the Celebrations of His Majesty the King‘s 82nd Birthday Anniversary.

Message from H.E Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand

It gives me great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all athletes and participants at the 2010 World Muaythai Championships here in Thailand, under the theme “100 Muaythai Countries Celebrate the 83rd Birthday of His Majesty the King: Land of Smiles, Land of Muaythai”.

Muaythai is a martial art that reflects culture and tradition. Its key elements are fair play and excellence, which are also the foundations of the Olympic Movement. Muaythai brings together people from all cultures, religions, and social backgrounds in an atmosphere of friendship and sportsmanship.

The Royal Thai Government recognises the importance of sports as the key to promote cooperation and unity among people. Our Kingdom has hosted many sporting events throughout the years, but it fills the people of Thailand with much pride that 100 nations are coming together to celebrate the 83rd Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King.

On this occasion, I would like to extend my best wishes to the organising committee, athletes and staff for the success of the event.
