H.E. Chumpol Silpa-archa

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Minister of Tourism and Sports

As the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and Minister of Tourism and Sports, it is my great pleasure and very proud to be part of this special occasion tonight. Muaythai is more than a martial art not only it ensured the freedom of our Kingdom, but it also has become a way of life, practiced around the world for health, fitness, self-defense and an exciting combat sport.

I am also delighted that many initiated cultural exchange programs bring different cultures closer together and contribute to develop our younger generations.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the World Muaythai Committee and the IFMA on their initiated “Sport is Your Gang” in cooperation with the Peace and Sports, a partner of the International Olympic Committee. I had the honour of being one of the speakers on behalf of the Royal Thai Government at the Peace and Sports forum in Monaco last year and the Royal Thai Government will pledge its full support to the “Sport is Your Gang Campaign”.

His Majesty the King has donated the King’s Trophy for the Super 4 winner. On the behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I pledge my full support and welcome our distinguished guests, the president of Sport Accord, the president of the World Games, the president of AlBA and all of Muaythai fan clubs. I wish all of you good fortune while you are staying as our guests in the Kingdom of Thailand. I also wish all of you good health and safe return home.

Message from Chumphol Silpa-archa
Minister of Tourism and Sports of The Kingdom of Thailand

As the Thailand Minister of Tourism and Sports, it is with great honour that I welcome all friends to the 2010 World Muaythai Championship in Bangkok.

Muaythai is part of Thai history and heritage. During the last years, the combined hard work of the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), the Thai Government and all the involved bodies resulted in the international recognition of amateur muaythai by some of the most important world sporting associations – SportAccord and the Olympic Council of Asia. This year, one more achievement of muaythai could be celebrated with its successful inclusion into the Combat Games which took place in Beijing for the first time this year.

Following the recent growth trend of muaythai, not only the World Championship will show the roots of Thai tradition, our country and its beauty, but it will also serve as an instrument for the muaythai community to spread out the art of this ancient sport as well as to promote the fairness and peace spirit so much emphasized within the sports world. I am also especially honoured that IFMA is a partner of “Peace and Sport” and using sport as a tool for contribution to peace, crisis, and education.

Thailand is once again proud to host the World Muaythai Championship and to bring all athletes, officials and visitors together for the celebration of His Majesty the King’s 83rd birthday. I am certain of the success of the event and I would like to wish all participants and spectators an unforgettable time in Thailand, enjoying the many treasures our Kingdom has to offer.

On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all athletes, officials and guests from over 82 countries to the ‘82 Muaythai Country’s Celebration; The 82nd Birthday of His Majesty the King’ or the World Muaythai Championships.

It is a great pleasure to observe satisfactory movement since the World Muaythai Council was established under the Cabinet Resolution that international muaythai community has urged the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) to bring amateur muaythai to the forefront of multi-sports games, especially to the Olympic Council of Asia and the SportAccord’s recognition. The next step is to attain the IOC recognition which I can assure that the Thai Government will work closely with IFMA and all affiliated member countries for this endeavour.

As the Minister of Tourism and Sports, I am proud to receive members from over 120 countries unify under the sport of muaythai.  The World Muaythai Council was initiated by the Parliament Resolution under the directive of the Royal Thai Government as the solitary association for professional muaythai.  The International Federation of Muaythai Amateur was instigated by the international muaythai community in view to advance amateur muaythai into multi-sports Games and the Olympic recognition.

The gathering of participants from all over the world to this sport event is not only for the competition, this will also be a memorable period for all Thai people and our guests to celebrate His Majesty the King’s Birthday.
