Another Australian Muaythai Supershow

Australia, one of the world powerhouses in Muaythai, enjoyed yet another Evolution supershow, sanctioned under the WMC and IFMA at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds on 28th April. The stadium was packed to capacity to see the big names battle it out and the crowd certainly didn’t go home disappointed.

The opening fight saw two of Australia’s super talents Tyson NTG taking on Ben Sorenson at 74kgs, in a solid display of skills, with Sorenson winning on a points decision. This fight was followed by Clinton Cork and Ben Cronin, Cork delivering a knee KO for a sensational win.

Mark Stati vs Mark Scaracino battled it out for a the prestigious WMC Queensland Title, and this fight only can be described as a war – both boys stood toe to toe for five solid rounds showing the toughness and skills of Australian fighters. Scaracino took the fight on a points decision and will be ready to challenge for the Australian title.

Next up was the Australian WMC Title fight between Ghot NTG and Michael “Tomohawk” Thompson, and this fight was with no doubt one of the most outstanding fights of the night. Ghot, the local boy, took the fight on a points decision and will with no doubt be a boy to watch out for.

The awaited female fight of the evening was between Emma McGuire and Asha Ingegneri. The fight was all class and both girls went the distance, but McGuire took the win on points.

The event as usual had a big international fight card, and first up was Australian superstar Dane “Daddy Cool” taking on Raphael Simonidis, the WMC MAD Champion and Bronze medal winner of the IFMA World Championships, from Poland. Both boys went to work from the opening of the round and in a fiery exchange the Polish fighter caught Daddy Cool with a superb headkick and the referee had to stop the fight. A great win for the Polish visitor.

The penultimate fight of the night saw superstar Soren Mongkongon, fresh from his big win over Thai legend Johmod Kiatadisak in Bangkok, taking Allan …………Soren was on fire as this was a ranking fight and the Canadian boy could not answer the bell in round three.

The crowd had been looking forward to the main event battle between the rematch of Bruce “Preacher” McFie and former WMC Champion and Winner of the WMC SI Wanlop Sitpholek, and it looked like both fighters had been too. After all the speculation in the weeks building up to the fight, McFie had a solid gameplan and moved quickly, impressing the crowd and, evidently the judges, as he won on points. Mc Fie is now back in the WMC world rankings, and this fight will be remembered as a great display of Muaythai.

Another packed venue with an audience in the thousands was ample testament to the popularity Muaythai is enjoying under the WMC and IFMA in the land down under. The event will be telecasted on Fox and UBC to a world wide audience.
