The inaugural SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Federation and Association Award was high on the agenda at the Sport and Business Convention in Sochi, Russia. A twelve-month detailed analysis and consultation with expert judges was conducted on a total of thirty International Federations and Associations which made the original cut for the prestigious title, which was eventually narrowed down to the top 10.
The 10 finalists for the SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Federation and Association Award was published and Muaythai is filled with joy as it is one of the top 10. The sport of Muaythai, under the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur, has been a proud member of SportAccord (formerly known as GAISF) since 2006 and has been an active and present exhibitor at every convention since then. Officially recognized by the IOC, SportAccord is the umbrella organisation for all (Olympic and non-Olympic) international sports federations as well as organisers of multi-sports games and sport-related international associations. IFMA has been in every SportAccord Convention from Seoul to Beijing, Athens to Denver, Dubai to London, and St. Petersburg to Antalya just last year.
This year, IFMA will be going to Sochi to once again attend the convention from April 19-24, and will represent Muaythai, the cultural art and competition sport in order to take Muaythai to the highest sporting recognition. A huge IFMA delegation from around the world will travel to Sochi, lead by IFMA President, Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan.
Lausanne, Switzerland: With just under a month to go for the SportAccord Convention World Sport and Business Summit in Sochi, Russia, SportAccord President, Marius L. Vizer spoke with Euronews about his tenure in office ahead of the presidential elections during the annual meeting of the sports industry.
“SportAccord has platforms that deliver services to members. We are starting a lot of platforms for international federations, as well as providing solutions for raising money, generating exposure and increasing attractiveness of sports,” said Mr. Vizer, ahead of an expected return to the presidency of SportAccord for a 4-year term.
Lausanne, Switzerland: SportAccord recently announced that the third edition of the World Combat Games will be organised in Lima, Peru in the end of 2017. The agreement to organise the event in the capital city of Peru was signed between Marius L. Vizer, president of SportAccord and José Quiñones González, the president of the Peru Olympic Committee.
Organised with the full support of the International Federations, the World Combat Games are due to be composed of 16 sports, 6 of which are in the Olympics and the remaining 10 are non-Olympic sports. Over 2500 athletes in 33 disciplines and 135 categories will participate in the 2017 edition of the event in Lima. SportAccord recently launched a powerful showcase for all sports. Sports United, is a weekly magazine show for all Olympic and non-Olympic sports under the SportAccord umbrella. Tomas Bach, the President of the IOC was a keynote speaker at the opening of the 2014 SportAccord International Federations Forum. The event was held at the Beau-Rivage Hotel in the Olympic capital of Lausanne in Switzerland. The IOC President expressed his delight at the UN’s very recent recognition of the autonomy and freedom of sport and of the IOC’s mission.
Euronews becomes the first international news channel for all sports, announcing the launch of its ‘Sports United’ programme.
Euronews and SportAccord signed a historic collaboration for sports programming, which will enable the global broadcaster and the union of all 92 international sports federations to establish a new sports programme. The agreement was signed today between Michael Peters, CEO of Euronews group and Marius Vizer, President of SportAccord, at the annual International Forum for international sports federations in Lausanne.
Muaythai is one of the 109 of world recognized sports by SportAccord and this year will be in in the 2014 IF Forum in Lausanne held from the 3rd to the 5th of November. The Forum will be opened by the IOC president, Thomas Bach, and will feature many guest speakers focusing on the theme of Innovation and Technology.
