Philippines Showcases Cultural Heritage to Kick Off 30th SEA Games

The world biggest indoor arena, the Philippines arena hosted a spectacular and breath-taking opening ceremony.

‘The roots of our strength’ was the theme, showcasing the heritage of the Philippines. The stadium erupted as the teams from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam and certainly the Philippines entered the stadium.

It was no one else but Manny Pacquiao given the honour as one of the torchbearers. The President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, opened the games.

The Games, themed ‘We Win As One’, will run for the next 12 days until the closing ceremony and will see 10 ASEAN countries compete for honour and glory.

Muaythai is one of the sports of the SEA games. IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan stated once again that the ASEAN countries will stand together in unity. FAMA President Karim Massimov stated that the SEA Games was the first competition in 1995 where Muaythai has been included under IFMA and 24 years later Muaythai recognised by the IOC continue from strong to stronger. President of the Philippines muaythai federation Lucas Managuelod stated that he is proud that his country is hosting the 30th SEA Games and he is looking forward to welcoming South East Asian muaythai countries.
